Looking for a new way to cross train? Recovering from or working to prevent injuries? Want to try something new to avoid plateaus?  The recent issue of Competitor Magazine has a three page spread about the benefits of indoor rowing for runners and triathletes. The rowing machine is a great tool to help serious and recreational athletes avoid or recover from injury, cross-train, gain endurance and burn fat.

One of the best benefits for runners and cyclists is the full-body pulling and pressing movement that rowing provides. Pressing with your legs while pulling with your arms strengthens your quads, abs and upper back. This helps to improve posture and spinal stabilization while enhancing power and endurance.

Check out these photos for a lesson on proper rowing technique… Joe won a medal for this race (against some of Southern California’s best rowers) earlier this year!
